Product FAQs

This would be one of our most often asked questions! YES they are legal!

The government of Canada with Canadian customs and the RCMP look at replicas in two fashions: modern vs. "antique" with the golden date of 1898 being key. For OUR selection, we carry models that are based on originals PRIOR TO 1898 - so we're able to import these and mail to customers without needing a PAL license. BIG NOTE - common sense is always required for ANY item that even remotely resembles a firearm!

For anything newer than 1898 these are deemed "modern" replicas and are prohibited here in Canada (thus can't be imported unless you have a restricted license). This is why you won’t see more "modern" replicas here in Canada from Denix like Mausers, Enfields, WWI and WWII rifles, etc. (sorry folks!).

"Uncontrolled" firearms

4. "Uncontrolled" firearms are those devices that, although falling within the definition of a firearm in the Criminal Code, are exempt from specific legal requirements of the Firearms Act and its regulations, as well as from other legislative provisions. "Uncontrolled" firearms do not fall under tariff item No. 9898.00.00, and are generally admissible into Canada. "Uncontrolled" firearms should not be subdivided into any of the non-restricted, restricted, or prohibited classes. The following types of firearms are deemed "uncontrolled":

(a) Antique firearms – The term "antique firearm" means:

(i) any firearm manufactured before 1898 that was not designed to discharge rim-fire or centre-fire ammunition and that has not been redesigned to discharge such ammunition; or

(ii) any firearm that is prescribed to be an antique firearm as listed in the Regulations Prescribing Antique Firearms.

Note: Reproductions of all types of antique handguns are considered "controlled" firearms unless the reproduction itself meets the definition of antique firearm (see above).

No - you don't need a PAL license to own a replica that we sell BUT common sense is required!

Yes - its our internal policies to ensure that you must be an adult of at least 18 years old in order to purchase with us. Anyone attempting to break this policy will have their order(s) cancelled and refunded.

Our stock are deemed non-firing replicas because they can’t be rigged or modified to fire blanks. The barrels are solid (roughly half way down) and don't include firing pins.

Unfortunately anything newer than 1898 are deemed "modern weapons" (even the non-firing ones) and aren't allowed through customs. This is why you won’t see more "modern" replicas here in Canada from Denix.

The Denix replicas we set are made of metal (without iron or steel, known as ZAMAK, whose basic component is ZINC (Zn) in 95% of the total) which is usually zinc overlaid with various finishes like pewter, nickel, brass, etc.) to simulate the original metal that would have been used. For the grips, these are either done in wood or in the case of Ivory grips – a resin/plastic, to simulate what the originals would have looked like.

For the most part, the replicas act like the originals: hammers can be pulled back, cylinders rotate, levers can be pulled, triggers can be pulled, hammers drop. Only real difference we've found in the case of Western revolvers - on an original you'd be able to pull out the bottom pin to release the cylinder: pins and cylinders are solid to the piece and can't be removed. In the case with some flintlocks and rifles, ramming rods are purely decorative (some are even a static part of the replica and can't be removed).

All of our replica guns are non-firing models. They cannot fire real ammunition or be modified to fire real ammunition.

No our replicas do not have orange plugs!

Unfortunately most American companies avoid the Canadian border for shipments because its extremely likely your order will be seized and either destroyed or shipped back to the seller at their expense. This is also the case for any Canadians vacationing in ie Arizona and trying to bring back a souvenir over the border.

Doing an overseas production or needing to travel with your replica(s)? Plan ahead! Check with your airline and country laws first. We cannot know all laws of all countries, so it is up to the buyer to check their local laws before ordering and buyer assumes all risk of confiscation made by Customs.

We strongly discourage the manipulation of our models to modify or alter both their appearance or their functionality. We decline all responsibility for the result of the changes made by the customer in any of our original models.

Delivery FAQ

This depends on where you live in Canada!

We ship direct from our warehouse in Toronto. Orders typically ship out either the same day or the following business day. From there it depends on where you live - the greater Toronto area is typically 1 business day to arrive, Montreal/Ottawa 2 business days, east coast 3-4 business days, central 3-4 business days, western 5-7 business days, etc.

For sure!

Shipments from both Toronto are shipped with Canada Post (https://www.canadapost.ca/) expedited ground parcel. Both shipping methods include online tracking which will be emailed to you after your order has shipped. We do have other carriers available for Toronto shipping (UPS, Canpar, FedEx) but at higher costs if needed.

Unfortunately based on the nature of replicas, we are only able to ship product within Canada and not internationally.

There are several vendors in the USA and globally which offer shipping to International clients - these can be found on the Denix map.
